Welcome to TanStudio! These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the TanStudio website and browser-based video recording service. By using TanStudio, you agree to these Terms.

About TanStudio

TanStudio is a browser-based video recording studio that lets you record screen, webcam, and audio with professional layouts and backgrounds—directly in your browser. No install, no account required for the free tier, and no watermark. All recording and video processing runs client-side.

Definitions

  • Service refers to the TanStudio website, recording tools, and features available at tanstudio.app
  • User, You, or Your refers to the person or entity using TanStudio
  • Content means any video, audio, or other materials you create using the Service
  • Account refers to a registered user account for accessing Pro features
  • Recordings means video and audio content captured and composited using our Service
  • Pro refers to the paid subscription tier of TanStudio

Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using TanStudio, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

Use of Service

Permitted Use

You may use TanStudio to:

  • Record screen, webcam, and audio content for personal or commercial purposes
  • Compose videos with layouts, backgrounds, and webcam framing
  • Export recordings as MP4 files
  • Download recordings to your device
  • Upload recordings to your own Google Drive or OneDrive (Pro)
  • Use recorded content in your presentations, tutorials, marketing materials, or other applications

Prohibited Use

You may NOT use TanStudio to:

  • Record or create illegal, harmful, or malicious content
  • Record content without the consent of individuals being recorded (where required by law)
  • Violate any person's intellectual property, privacy, or publicity rights
  • Harass, abuse, or harm others
  • Attempt to hack, disrupt, or compromise the Service
  • Scrape, crawl, or systematically extract data from the Service
  • Resell or redistribute the Service without permission
  • Circumvent any rate limits, access restrictions, or security measures
  • Use the Service for fraudulent purposes

Account Terms

Free Tier

  • No account required
  • Full access to core recording features
  • 720p export quality
  • Basic layouts and solid color backgrounds
  • Settings reset each session

Pro Tier ($4.99/month)

For Pro features that require an account:

Account Creation

  • You must authenticate via Google or Microsoft OAuth
  • You must be at least 13 years old to create an account
  • You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account
  • You are responsible for all activities under your account
  • You must notify us immediately of any unauthorized access

Account Termination

  • You may close your account at any time
  • We may suspend or terminate your account for violating these Terms
  • Upon termination, your right to use Pro features immediately ceases
  • Your recordings are stored on your device or your own cloud storage—account termination does not affect them

Subscription and Billing

  • Pro subscriptions are billed monthly at $4.99/month via Stripe
  • You may cancel your subscription at any time; access continues until the end of the billing period
  • Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis—contact us at support@tanstudio.app
  • We reserve the right to change pricing with 30 days notice to existing subscribers

Content and Ownership

Your Content

  • You retain all rights to the recordings and content you create with TanStudio
  • Your recordings are processed entirely in your browser—we never have access to them
  • You are solely responsible for the content you record and share
  • We do not claim any ownership of your recordings

Our Content

  • TanStudio's design, code, logos, and branding are our intellectual property
  • You may not copy, modify, or reverse-engineer the Service
  • You may not use our trademarks without written permission

Generated Recordings

  • Recordings you create are yours to use freely, for personal or commercial purposes
  • We do not place watermarks or restrictions on any recordings (free or Pro)
  • We do not claim ownership of the videos you create

Client-Side Processing

TanStudio operates primarily in your browser:

  • Screen capture, webcam, and audio streams are processed locally
  • Video compositing runs on HTML5 Canvas in your browser
  • MP4 conversion runs via FFmpeg.wasm in your browser
  • Recordings download directly to your device

This architecture means TanStudio has no access to your video content. You are solely responsible for the storage, backup, and security of your recordings.

Cloud Storage (Pro)

When using Google Drive or OneDrive upload:

  • You authenticate directly with Google or Microsoft
  • Uploads go directly from your browser to your cloud storage
  • TanStudio does not store, process, or have access to uploaded files
  • Cloud storage is governed by Google's or Microsoft's terms of service
  • TanStudio is not responsible for the availability or security of third-party cloud storage

Service Availability

No Warranty

TanStudio is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not guarantee:

  • Uninterrupted or error-free service
  • Specific uptime or availability
  • Compatibility with all browsers, devices, or operating systems
  • Specific recording quality or performance

Browser Requirements

  • TanStudio requires a modern desktop browser (Chrome 90+ or Edge 90+ recommended)
  • Screen capture (getDisplayMedia) is not available on mobile browsers
  • Some features may not work on Firefox or Safari
  • FFmpeg.wasm requires SharedArrayBuffer support (Cross-Origin Isolation)

Service Changes

We reserve the right to:

  • Modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service
  • Update these Terms at any time
  • Change pricing for Pro features with reasonable notice
  • Add or remove features

We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of significant changes.

Data Loss Disclaimer

Because TanStudio processes everything client-side:

  • If you close your browser tab before saving, your recording may be lost
  • We are not responsible for recordings lost due to browser crashes, tab closure, or device issues
  • We recommend downloading your recordings promptly after completing them
  • Cloud upload failures (due to internet interruption) may result in incomplete uploads—resumable upload will attempt to recover automatically

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

  • We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
  • Our total liability shall not exceed $100 or the amount you paid us in the past 12 months, whichever is greater
  • We are not responsible for how you use your recordings
  • We are not liable for damages from service interruptions, data loss, or recording failures
  • We are not liable for content you record or share

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless TanStudio from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from:

  • Your use of the Service
  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Your violation of any rights of another party
  • Content you record, create, or share using the Service

Privacy and Data Processing

  • Your use of TanStudio is also governed by our Privacy Policy
  • All recording and video processing happens client-side in your browser
  • We do not access, store, or process your video recordings
  • Account data and settings are stored securely with Supabase
  • Please review our Privacy Policy for detailed information

Third-Party Services

TanStudio integrates with third-party services:

  • Google / Microsoft: OAuth authentication and cloud storage (Pro)
  • Stripe: Payment processing
  • Supabase: Authentication and settings storage
  • Vercel: Hosting infrastructure

We are not responsible for third-party services or content. Third-party terms and privacy policies apply to their services.

Intellectual Property Claims

If you believe content on TanStudio infringes your intellectual property:

  • Contact us at legal@tanstudio.app with details
  • Provide proof of ownership
  • Specify the infringing content

We will investigate and respond to valid claims promptly.

Export Compliance

You agree to comply with all applicable export laws and regulations when using TanStudio.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to conflict of law provisions. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Delaware.

Dispute Resolution

  • We encourage you to contact us first to resolve any issues
  • If a dispute cannot be resolved informally, it shall be resolved through binding arbitration
  • You waive the right to participate in class-action lawsuits

Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full effect.

Entire Agreement

These Terms and our Privacy Policy constitute the entire agreement between you and TanStudio regarding the Service.

No Waiver

Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms shall not be considered a waiver of those rights.

Assignment

You may not assign or transfer these Terms without our consent. We may assign these Terms without restriction.
